(At the end of his journey)
"I looked out over the Bering Sea and brought my hands folded to the breast of my parka and bowed from the waist deeply toward the north, that great straight filled with life, the ice and water. I held the bow to the pale sulphur sky at the northern rim of the earth. I held the bow until my back ached, and my mind was emptied of its categories and designs, its plans and speculations. I bowed before the simple evidence of the moment in my life in a tangible place on the earth that was beautiful"

Alright, when are you moving to Alaska?
This is bringing Farley Mowat to my memory. Have you read any of his books? I guess the most popular is "Never cry wolf", but my favorites are "The snow walker" and the "Top of the World Trilogy".
dcver: I read parts of "Lost in the Barrens" when my son read it two years ago. The descriptions of survival and things like tanning animal hide were great; the kind of authentic, informative things I want my boys to read. Other than that I didn't know anything about Mowat until you mentioned him and I googled him.
But my love affair with the North is only just beginning. Now I've got someone else to read. Thanks for the recommendation.
